Some Encounters Change Who We Become.

There are moments in life when a person, a place, a conversation, an opportunity, or an idea enters our lives and changes something.

Sometimes we recognize the significance immediately. Often, we don’t.

Only later do we understand that the encounter changed how we saw ourselves, redirected where we were going, or made possible something that

could not have existed before.

Where Things Meet is an exhibition about those moments.

THE EXHIBITION

Six Bodies of Work. One Question.

Between 2020 and 2022, six photographic projects emerged from different collaborators, ideas, cultural references, and circumstances.

They were never created to become an exhibition.

Years later, looking across the work, a pattern emerged.

Each project existed at a point of encounter: ancestry met contemporary image-making, spirituality met inherited interpretation, cultural legacy met reinvention, and supporting roles met the spotlight.

Different photographs. Different stories. The same underlying question: What becomes possible when two things meet?

THE ARTIST

Jordi-Lakeem Foster arrived in Brooklyn from Jamaica in December 2012 with an interest in Photoshop and a growing fascination with the power of images.

Before owning a camera, he retouched photographs for friends, classmates, and early clients. In 2014, while interning at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, he saved two paychecks to purchase his first camera—a used red Nikon D5200.

Photography became more than a profession. It introduced him to people, places, collaborators, cultures, and opportunities that continually expanded the way he understood both the world and himself.

More than a decade later, many of those seemingly separate encounters have found their way back to one another in Where Things Meet.

THE EVOLUTION

Sometimes You Don’t Understand the Moment Until Later.

The six photographic bodies in Where Things Meet were created independently. There was no master plan connecting them.

Time revealed the connection.

Looking backward, Jordi began to recognize that the same idea running through the photographs had also been running through his own life.

People met opportunities. Ideas met collaborators. Preparation met unexpected moments. Jamaica met Brooklyn.

The photographer met experiences that gradually expanded what he believed he could become.

That realization became the seventh and final chapter: The Evolution.

It turns the exhibition’s central question back onto the artist himself.

What Has Met You?

Maybe it was a person.

A place.

A conversation you almost didn’t have.

An opportunity you weren’t expecting.

An idea that changed what you thought was possible.

We don’t always recognize these moments while we’re living them. Sometimes their meaning only becomes visible when we look backward and see everything they set in motion.

Where Things Meet is an invitation to look again - at the photographs, at the encounters that shaped them, and perhaps at the encounters that shaped you.
